Soptodha Polli is the story of courage meeting craft. Founded by Sonia Shobhan, a law graduate who returned to Rangpur to care for her ailing mother in 2010, the brand began with a needle and thread—and a fierce will to create.
Mocked as a “hawker” for going door to door, Sonia embraced the label: “Every entrepreneur is a hawker—one who bravely delivers their dream to society.” That conviction became her engine.
In 2012, Sonia noticed the waste piling up in tailoring rooms and saw not scrap—but possibility. She began upcycling fabric offcuts into thoughtfully designed jewelry, apparel, and home décor, and sourced discarded materials from other women entrepreneurs for a modest fee—creating income, dignity, and environmental benefits.
Today, Soptodha Polli employs approximately 75 artisans under an Umbrella Model with three business units—Crafts & Fashion, Danapani (local foods), and Krishti (Satranji & jute)—and four registered social organizations for women, youth, cooperative development, and culture.
